Cayin Customer Case Study
Reseller and SignLabs work in partnership to create world class facility
Liverpool John Moores University has played a vital role in the cultural
renaissance of Liverpool and has taken an active part in the regeneration of
the city. New advances in digital technology and science have placed the
university at the forefront of exciting developments in areas such as
multimedia, sports science and learning how to fly. The University is
enjoying a boom in student numbers which currently stand at more than
24,000.
The Universitys School of Art and Design is situated in the Art and Design
academy, a brand new £32m purpose-built building in the heart of Liverpools
creative quarter. Early in 2008, one of SignLabsÂ’ (distributor AVMs digital
signage division) resellers won a tender to equip this landmark building with full,
high end audio visual solutions.
The requirement
The clients requirement fell into several key areas. The first was a multi purpose space with removable seating which serves as a lecture theatre, performance area and exhibition space. Other areas included an auditorium, a teaching room and boardroom, and the atrium reception area.Key technology
One of the key technologies recommended was Cayin Digital Signage, supplied through SignLabs. The Cayin system is used to stream audio, video and data solutions to strategic areas around the campus, including entrance areas, the café and the atrium. In most areas, content is streamed to wall mounted 52" Sharp LCD monitors, but in the atrium, the display is through a high end ChristieS12+ projector, projecting onto a large screen, resulting in a 6m wide image.
Use of system
The Cayin system takes a live camera feed from the multi purpose area and shows the event in real time in the atrium area and around the campus. In other areas, the system is used to display programme information about forthcoming events, and information for visitors and students. The reseller recommended the Cayin system because it handles streaming well, is easy for users to update, is very scaleable and has low cost of ownership. This was important as the University needed a system that could be rolled out at a later date to other areas of the campus.
Partnership approach
One of the reasons for the success of the installation was the partnership approach between the reseller and SignLabs. SignLabs not only supplied the equipment, but also supported the reseller on site for the demonstration, installation and configuration. They also supplied user training for the staff at the university. According to the reseller, this joint approach ensured the best result for the customer. The results
According to Mark Nevitt, Mount Pleasant Resource Director at the University, "Our relationship with the AV reseller has been more of a partnership, than a traditional customer/supplier relationship. They shared our aims of creating a world class facility in Liverpool. The university has been delighted with the support we have received on our new Art and Design Academy. Our expectations were exceeded and a professional approach was shown from the tender submission through to completion. The onsite team have produced work of the highest quality, and went the extra mile on numerous occasions to ensure we met our deadlines."
